Essex Police said its officers were shocked and amazed by the number of motorists who slowed down to film the aftermath of a crash on the M11 near Loughton.
The collision happened when a silver VW Golf and a blue Vauxhall Zafira struck each other on the southbound carriageway at 8.30am on Monday.
Paramedics and firefighters attended the scene, with a few people suffering minor injuries.
